Judge rules against DeSantis over mask mandate ban

Ron DeSantis

DeSantis’ mask mandate ban blocked. Judge rules schools can mandate masks.

Where: Florida

The Facts

A Florida judge ruled that schools can impose mask mandates, stating that Governor Ron DeSantis’ ban is unconstitutional.

DeSantis’ July order gave parents the right to choose whether their children wear a mask in school.

On Friday, Leon County Judge, John Cooper, stated the order “is without legal authority.”

The court’s decision implies that Florida’s Department of Education cannot act against school districts for not complying with the Governor’s order.

DeSantis vowed to appeal the decision and remarked, “If we win in trial court, I’m sure it will be appealed on the other side too. And so that’s good, I think we obviously need to have this stuff crystallized.”
