Extra vaccine dose for the immunocompromised

CDC issues guidance for immunocompromised. Third vaccine dose for weak immune system.

Where: United States

The Facts

On Friday, the CDC recommended people with compromised immune systems receive a third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky stated, “This official CDC recommendation — which follows FDA’s decision to amend the emergency use authorizations of the vaccines — is an important step in ensuring everyone, including those most vulnerable to COVID-19, can get as much protection as possible from COVID-19 vaccination.”

The CDC has not recommended additional vaccine doses or booster shots for the general population at this time.

The American Association of Kidney Patients stated, “The American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP) thanks the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for incorporating the unique insights of America’s kidney transplant recipients and the medical professionals who care for them in their authorization of a third vaccine dose.”
