CDC recommends Covid-19 vaccination for pregnant women

CDC issues new guidance for pregnant women. CDC analysis finds Covid vaccine safe.

Where: United States

The Facts

The CDC urged pregnant women to get the Covid-19 vaccinations, saying they were safe and effective.

CDC Director, Dr. Rochelle Walensky, stated, “It has never been more urgent to increase vaccinations as we face the highly transmissible Delta variant and see severe outcomes from COVID-19 among unvaccinated pregnant people.”

A new CDC analysis of data on 2,500 pregnant women who received an mRNA Covid-19 vaccine before 20 weeks of pregnancy showed no increase in the risk of miscarriage.

The analysis showed a miscarriage rate of 13%, similar to the expected rate in the general population.

The new advice also applies to nursing mothers and women planning to get pregnant.
