CA orders regular COVID-19 testing or vaccination for school staff

CA public health order for school staff. Staff to get vaccinated or tested regularly.

Where: CA

The Facts

On August 11th, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) issued a public health order that will require all public and private school staff to submit proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or submit to regular testing.

Unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated school employees will be required to undergo weekly Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) or antigen testing as schools reopen.

California is the first US State to implement such an order for school employees – CA Governor Gavin Newsom urged all staff, including teachers, to get vaccinated.

Newsom stated, “We think this is the right thing to do, and we think this is a sustainable way to keeping our schools open and to address the No. 1 anxiety that parents like myself have for young children — and that is knowing that the schools are doing everything in their power to keep our kids safe.”‘

Alameda County Superintendent of Schools L.K. Monroe said, “A vaccine requirement for education staff, as announced by Governor Newsom, is a necessary step, one that aligns with the science, and public health recommendations to create the safest environment possible as we reopen our campuses.”
