The Facts
▪ The GOP had blocked the committee by a 54-35 vote in the Senate last week.
▪ In a bid to bypass the Senate, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had proposed a 13 member House Committee to investigate the riots.
▪ On Wednesday, the House voted 222-190 to approve the committee.
▪ The majority included Republicans Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Adam Kinzinger of Illinois.
▪ Pelosi will appoint 8 of the 13-panel members and nominate five others after consulting with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.
▪ Pelosi invited some police officers who tried to control the January 6th riots and a few family members to sit in the House gallery during the debate.
