The Facts
▪ Apple notified Trump’s former White House Counsel, Donald F. McGahn II, of the subpoena last month.
▪ The New York Times broke the story on the 13th of June, stating that a subpoena was served to Apple on the 23rd of February 2018 by the DOJ. The tech giant received a second subpoena from a federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Virginia.
▪ The paper reported that the DOJ’s intent was unclear and that it’s not known if McGahn was the primary target of the inquiry.
▪ In an interview with CNN, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said, “The Justice Department has been rogue under President Trump” and that the subpoenas were “just another manifestation of their rogue activity.”
