Mask guidance relaxed for summer camps

CDC updated guidance for camps. Fully vaccinated campers do not need masks.

Where: United States

The Facts

▪ The CDC updated guidance for day/overnight camps Friday.

▪ Campers and staff who are fully vaccinated are not required to wear masks at camp, except where required by law.

▪ Physical distancing is not mandatory for staff and campers who are fully vaccinated except when indicated in CDC recommendations.

▪ Camp programs should support campers who choose to wear a mask, despite it not being a requirement for fully vaccinated people.

▪ For camps where not everyone is fully vaccinated, CDC states, “Camp programs with any campers or staff who are not fully vaccinated should layer multiple prevention strategies to help protect the people who are not vaccinated, which includes all children under the age of 12 years, and slow the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19.”

▪ The CDC Data Tracker says that in the population aged 12+ years, 59.3% have had at least one dose of vaccine.
