CDC panel extends J&J vaccine pause. Experts seek additional data.

The Facts

▪ The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) decided not to vote Wednesday on the decision to pause the use of the J&J vaccine, but to do so in the near future.

▪ The CDC and FDA had recommended a pause in administering J&J vaccines Tuesday after 6 people developed cerebral venous sinus thrombosis.

▪ As of Wednesday afternoon, more than 6.8 million doses of the J&J vaccine have been administered.

▪ The White House said the pause “will not have a significant impact” on the administration’s vaccination plans, noting that it has secured sufficient Moderna and Pfizer doses.
