▪ Biden signed an order Friday limiting US refugees to 15,000, the same cap set by former President Donald Trump.
▪ Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), and other prominent Democrats objected to the limit as too low.
▪ Biden said, “The admission of up to 15,000 refugees remains justified by humanitarian concerns and is otherwise in the national interest”.
▪ In response to concerns, White House spokesperson Jen Psaki said in a statement that the final increased refugee cap for the remainder of this fiscal year would be fixed by May 15.
